Christy Smitheran

Mrs. Smitheran completed her undergraduate work at the University of California, Irvine with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She then pursued a master’s degree in physical therapy from California State University Fresno graduating in May 2000. Mrs. Smitheran has extensive experience in neurological rehabilitation working with patients from a variety of centers including Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, CareMeridian, Village Healthcare Centers, No Limit Physical Therapy and finally Precision Rehabilitation. Over the last 22 years she has been a leader in the areas of spinal cord injury, stroke rehabilitation, amputations, balance rehabilitation, and wheelchair seating and positioning. Currently, Ms. Smitheran co-owns Precision Rehabilitation and has been featured on various radio and television programs with her work in neurological rehabilitation. Her commitment to advanced technology has earned her advancing publicity. This technology includes ReWalk where Mrs. Smitheran helps people with paralysis walk again.
Christy completed her certification in Neuro-Developmental Technique (NDT) and previously held a RESNA certified Assistive Technology Practitioner (ATP). Additionally, she is a certified Ride Designs custom seat system provider and has grown a wheelchair seating clinic with expert clinicians. People from all over the world have traveled to Precision Rehabilitation to be evaluated by Mrs. Smitheran. Christy is also LSVT ® BIG certified to help patients with Parkinson’s Disease or Parkinson’s-like symptoms use exercise to improve function.
Mrs. Smitheran has been a part-time lecturer at California State University, Long Beach in the Physical Therapy program and has conducted presentations on spinal cord injury, wheelchair assessment, and private practice ownership to other universities including University of Southern California and California State University, Fresno. Christy is an active member in the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and California Physical Therapy Association (CPTA) and holds a Clinical Instructor certification (CI) through the APTA for our student clinical rotations.
